Our Environmental Policy
No business can operate without some form of environmental impact. At Jaret House, we are only too aware of that but are trying our best to reduce that impact as much as we can.
We are proud holders of the prestigious Environmental Quality Mark, a certification mark that can only be achieved by businesses that actively support good environmental practices in the Peak District National Park.
However we’re not perfect and we’d appreciate it if you could help us out and kindly point out anything we could improve still further.
Reduce, Re-use and Recycle
By sourcing as much of our food and other supplies as possible from local sources we’re reducing the food miles our food travels as well as cutting down on the unnecessary use of vehicles. One positive side effect too is that locally produced food is often far tastier than food that has travelled half the world before it gets on your plate. If we can’t get it locally then we try to source Fairtrade products.
We aim to re-use as much as possible. No you won’t get that sausage you didn’t eat yesterday but we don’t automatically change the beds or towels if you stay with us for more than one night. Our purchasing is carefully thought through too, to ensure that products are well-made and long-lasting.
In the end we’re going to produce some waste but we recycle as much of this as possible using the excellent local facilities. We’d encourage you to help too by separating out recyclable materials for us.
Low energy light bulbs, low chemical use, energy-efficient electrical goods are all part of our attempt to reduce our environmental impact. We’re not perfect, or zealots, so feel free to add your suggestions.

Our Furniture
One of the things that makes Jaret House stand out is our extensive use of recycled timbers in our furniture. These have been carefully selected for us and turned into outstanding furniture by the Nottingham firm eat, sleep, live. And because it’s all recycled timber, every piece is unique.
Smoking
We have a no smoking policy in all the rooms and on land owned by Jaret House. Please respect our desire to keep our home a smoke-free environment.
